PGMBM is optimistic about the hearing in April when it will be decided whether the case can be tried in England.
Since 2018, PGMBM has been committed to fighting for justice for the people affected by the Fundão dam rupture in Mariana. We believe that 2022 will be decisive for more than 200,000 people who still seek fair compensation for their losses caused by the Mariana dam disaster.
PGMBM started the battle against BHP (Samarco’s parent company) in England in 2018 in July 2021 won permission to appeal the negative decision of 2020.
“The year 2021 was one of the most important in our history. We started with not very encouraging news that the case had been rejected in the appeal court. PGMBM used an exceptional English Court procedure which is rarely successful in the British Courts to re-open the case, and we will now have another opportunity at the hearing in April” says PGMBM’s partner lawyer, Tomás Mousinho.
The end of 2021 marks yet another year without answers to those affected by the biggest environmental disaster in Brazilian history, who now seek justice in the British courts. These are residents of several cities located along the Doce River basin in the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo who are still living every day with the effects of the tragedy.
Client data updates in the Mariana Case in England
The client data updates to remain in the lawsuit that the English law firm PGMBM filed against BHP (Samarco’s parent company) in the English courts go on through the 0800 031 10 40 phone service.
There will be no service due to the New Year holidays on December 31, 2021, and January 01 and 02, 2022.
After these dates, the phone service returns to normal operation. In addition, the Walk-in Centers for registered PGMBM clients will reopen on January 05, 2022 in Governador Valadares-MG, Colatina, and Baixo Guandu in Espírito Santo. “Although people can update their data by calling 0800 031 10 40, some people prefer to do so in-person, so PGMBM decided to expand the service for everyone to stay in the action”, explains Pedro Martins, PGMBM’s partner attorney.
The registration update is one more step in the lawsuit that PGMBM initiated against BHP in England, on behalf of thousands of people impacted by the 2015 Mariana Fundão dam tragedy.
