A recall of over 2 million RockaRoo Baby Rockers and MamaRoo Baby Swings has been voluntarily initiated following the death of a 10-month-old baby.
It was announced on August 15, 2022, that 4moms and the Consumer Product Safety Commission were recalling these products, warning that crawling infants could become entangled and subsequently strangled to death by the restraint straps dangling below the seat when not in use.
When the swing or rocker is unoccupied, an infant can crawl under it and become entangled in the dangling straps, posing a strangulation risk.
The products subject to the recall were sold between January 2010 and August 2022 on Amazon, the 4moms website, Target, and BuyBuy Baby.
The affected RockaRoo model number is 4M-012, and the affected MamaRoo model numbers are 4M-005, 1025, and 1037. The most recently launched MamaRoo, model number 1046, launched in July, is not being recalled. The model number can be located underneath the swing or rocker.
As a result, 4moms is offering free strap fasteners for users affected by this, which will prevent straps from dangling underneath the swings. Users can purchase the strap fasteners online.
The CPSC recommends that users with crawling infants should place the recalled swings and rockers in an area they cannot access and discontinue using them immediately unless they have received and are using the strap fastener.
