Pogust Goodhead has been shortlisted in three categories across two of the legal industry’s most prestigious awards programs — The Lawyer Awards and the Legal Business Awards — in recognition of an exceptional year for the firm.
The Lawyer Awards: Team of the Year — Litigation
The firm has been shortlisted for Team of the Year: Litigation at The Lawyer Awards for its work on Mariana v BHP, one of the most significant environmental class actions ever brought before the English courts.
The case arises from the 2015 collapse of the Fundão dam in Brazil — considered the country’s worst socio-environmental disaster — and sees Pogust Goodhead acting for over hundreds of thousands of claimants, including Indigenous peoples, local communities, businesses, and municipalities. In November 2025, the High Court handed down a landmark liability judgment against BHP, marking the first time any mining company had been held legally accountable for the disaster and establishing important new precedent for cross-border environmental accountability.
Legal Business Awards
Pogust Goodhead has been shortlisted in two categories at the Legal Business Awards. The Mariana litigation team is nominated for Disputes Team of the Year in recognition of a landmark year that culminated in the historic High Court liability judgment against BHP, one of the most significant environmental rulings ever handed down by an English court.
The Corporate Affairs team has been shortlisted for Business Services Team of the Year at the Legal Business Awards, recognising the communications operation it ran in support of the Mariana judgment and the firm’s wider caseload, including the Pan-NOx “Dieselgate” litigation in which Pogust Goodhead acts as joint Lead Solicitor representing 1.67 million diesel vehicle owners.
Managing communications across three continents, in multiple languages, for a claimant group of over hundreds of thousands of people, while simultaneously supporting the Pan-NOx proceedings, the Corporate Affairs team, supported by the Operations and Technology teams, built and maintained the infrastructure that made meaningful client engagement possible at unprecedented scale.
