£193million payment to Volkswagen drivers agreed in UK settlement

May 25, 2022

We announced today an out-of-court settlement agreement on behalf of our Claimants with the Volkswagen Group in the Volkswagen NOx Emissions Group Litigation.

The Volkswagen Group have made a payment totalling £193million to UK drivers.

The Volkswagen Group

The claims first became public in 2015 in respect of the two-mode software installed in certain Volkswagen Group vehicles with EA189 diesel engines.

The agreed settlement resolves the claims that were being brought against various Volkswagen Group and dealer entities in that group action in England & Wales.

VW Settlement

Pogust Goodhead represented over 15,000 Claimants. A separate contribution is being made by the Volkswagen Group towards the claimants’ legal costs and other fees.

Tony Winterburn, a Partner and Head of Consumer Protection Litigation, commented:

This is a good day for the Claimants and is the culmination of five years of hard-fought litigation.

My Diesel Claim

More than 1.8 million people have signed up to the My Diesel Claim Campaign. However, with an estimated 8.5 million diesel vehicles still on UK roads, the fight for justice and cleaner air is far from over.

The settlement agreement concludes claims against all Volkswagen vehicles with an EA189 engine registered between 2008 and 2015. However, we are still investigating claims against the Volkswagen Group for their 2009 – 2020 vehicles.

If you think your VW, Audi, Porsche, Seat, or Skoda might be involved, you can use our free eligibility checker at MyDieselClaim.com.
