Emissions

In the UK, the most significant cause of illegal air pollution levels comes from the emissions that diesel vehicles emit.

Pogust Goodhead is working tirelessly to hold vehicle manufacturers to account for the damage they have caused.

Dieselgate scandal

A number of vehicle manufacturers have been accused of diesel emissions fraud after allegedly fitting so-called impermissible defeat devices in their vehicles to cheat emissions tests and to elude laws put in place to protect public health. This has worsened air pollution levels throughout the UK.

Diesel cars and air pollution

Air pollution is a significant public health problem, and long-term exposure to excess air pollution has been attributed to:

  • Cardiovascular diseases
  • Respiratory diseases
  • Lung cancer
  • Reduced life expectancy
  • Dementia

In response to the ‘Dieselgate’ scandal, Pogust Goodhead launched the My Diesel Claim campaign, which has already seen over 1.3 million drivers sign up, more than all other law firms litigating the claims combined.

Pogust Goodhead and Volkswagen settlement

In June 2022, Pogust Goodhead successfully represented claimants in the Volkswagen NOx Emissions Group Litigation, reaching a first-of-its kind, out-of-court UK settlement of £193M.

However, the fight for justice and cleaner air is far from over.

Alongside campaigning for the government to act immediately and start collaborating with vehicle manufacturers to protect people’s health and the wider environment, Pogust Goodhead is also taking action against vehicle manufacturers to hold them to account.

We have cases against BMW and Mini, Fiat Chrysler, Ford, Jaguar Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan and Renault, and other vehicle manufacturers that have been accused of malpractice. We are also further investigating the Volkswagen Group for vehicles first registered between 2009 and 2020.

Dieselgate compensation

Pogust Goodhead aims to help those affected receive compensation of up to £10,000 for every diesel vehicle they owned or leased that was first registered between 2009 and 2020.

If you think your vehicle may have been involved in the diesel emissions fraud, you can use our free eligibility checker at MyDieselClaim.com.

Our commitment

Pogust Goodhead has a team of leading emissions lawyers with decades of combined experience and a proven track record of successfully achieving justice for clients.

This diverse team is continuously supporting over one million clients affected by the Dieselgate scandal.

In May 2022, Pogust Goodhead, along with other law firms, reached an out-of-court settlement agreement with the vehicle manufacturer Volkswagen.

Emissions Fraud

We strongly believe that vehicle manufacturers accused of emissions fraud should be held accountable for the irreparable damage caused to people’s health and to the environment.

We have worked tirelessly on behalf of our clients for over five years, which culminated in the Volkswagen Group finally offering a payment to our clients.

We will continue our relentless fight for justice to help gain compensation for all our clients, and to hold manufacturers to account so they change their approach in the future.
