In 2019, a dam collapsed in Brumadinho, Brazil, killing 272 people. Last week, victims of the disaster travelled to TÜV SÜD’s headquarters in Munich to demand justice alongside AVABRUM, an association representing those affected by the tragedy.
Before the collapse, there were clear warnings about the dam’s stability however operations continued after TÜV SÜD’s subsidiary certified the dam as safe. The collapse released toxic sludge into the environment. It destroyed infrastructure, submerged vehicles, and contaminated water supplies and has continued harming ecological systems and individuals.
We are representing over 1,400 clients in the courts of Munich against TÜV SÜD. Last week our Partner Guy Robson and Legal Director Bruna Ficklscherer stood alongside AVABRUM in Germany.
“The tragedy in Brumadinho over 5 years ago has left a deep scar on so many residents and their families in Brumadinho who can’t get the closure they deserve as TÜV SÜD tries to drag out proceedings. TÜV SÜD has refused to offer full and fair redress for victims, including our 1,300 clients. They should now do the right thing and bring this ongoing suffering to an end for all of those affected by the collapse.” – Guy Robson, Partner
“This is the second time I have accompanied victims of the Brumadinho dam collapse to Germany to TÜV SÜD’s headquarters. Once again, I am witnessing these victims pleading for justice, while TÜV SÜD remains unresponsive.” – Bruna Ficklscherer, Legal Director
