Webinar invitation: Using the law to protect the rights of indigenous people

November 3, 2023

Join our online webinar on Monday 20 November 2023, from 3 pm – 4 pm (GMT) for a discussion covering the means and legal avenues to protect the rights of Indigenous people and feature ongoing cases from Pogust Goodhead and ClientEarth.

In this webinar, the first in our new educational series, we aim to raise awareness about the critical relationship between Indigenous rights and environmental protection within the legal framework. The webinar will cover both the application of and potential gaps in the law.

The discussion will feature ongoing cases from Pogust Goodhead and ClientEarth in Brazil, Australia, and Gabon.

We will explore the means and legal avenues to protect the rights of Indigenous people and local communities and the challenges faced against large corporations.

Throughout the webinar, we will discuss the main barriers to accessing justice and obstacles that indigenous peoples and local communities (IPLC) encounter, how lawyers play a role in raising awareness and advocating for IPLC rights within the legal community and beyond and explore key legal challenges faced by IPLC in asserting their rights and where improvements can be made.
