Jan completed her LLB and DPLP while working at JustRight Scotland as a senior legal caseworker, where she worked collaboratively across the legal centres, predominantly on gender-based violence and with survivors of human trafficking. Jan helped set up the Ukraine Advice Scotland project, in the Scottish Refugee and Migrant Centre, on the outbreak of war in Ukraine.

Jan has an LLM in International Law from the University of Edinburgh, which helped her secure work with the International Service for Human Rights at the United Nations in Geneva, as a legal monitor of UN human rights treaties. Jan’s longstanding interest in human rights took her to Mexico where she worked for years as a lecturer in International Law while collaborating on research projects with the State Human Rights Commission. She also spent 18 months working with unaccompanied, detained minors at the Cabrini Centre for Immigrant Legal Assistance in Houston, Texas.
